AABNet promotes livestock genetic improvement programmes among the key actors in the African livestock sector. In collaboration with Interbull and the African Union’s ASBPP, AABNet will use combined networks of animal breeders to share advanced breeding information, genetic evaluation methodologies, and decision-support tools to enhance livestock productivity and genetic improvement across Africa. Specifically, it will promote the delivery and use of top-ranking and ecologically better-adapted livestock identified through multi-country genetic evaluation. It will publish bull lists and their genetic merit on the AABNet website with searchable access to registered farmers. Furthermore, it will highlight the comparative socio-economic and environmental benefits of using such genetically top-ranked animals based on the desired breeding objective for respective livestock species.
